Amsterdam Dental Group, a leader in Periodontal Prosthesis and Periodontics, is pleased to announce practice partner Howard P. Fraiman, D.M.D. has been named Director of the Postdoctoral Periodontal Prosthesis Program at Penn Dental Medicine. A well-respected clinician and longtime contributor to the department, Dr. Fraiman becomes only the 5th director of the world-renowned Periodontal Prosthesis program. His

responsibilities will include leading and collaborating with a highly esteemed team of faculty to train residents within the four-year post-graduate Periodontal Prosthesis program.

The Periodontal Prosthesis program at Penn Dental Medicine was established in 1957 by Dr. Morton Amsterdam and Dr. D. Walter Cohen. The program was the first of its kind in the United States and around the world to train dentists as dual specialists in prosthetics and periodontics. Sixty years later, it remains one of the unique programs in dual-specialty dental training today. Dentists in residency come from countries all throughout the world, many of who return home to become leading clinicians and educators in the field of dentistry.

Dr. Fraiman was accepted into the prestigious six year accelerated Bio Dental Program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he received his Bachelor of Science in 1991 and his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 1991 from the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn Dental Medicine, he went on to receive his certificates in Periodontics and Periodontal Prosthesis (Fixed Prosthodontics), becoming the youngest student ever to complete this specialty training. Over the years, Dr. Fraiman has remained actively involved with the University. He has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Director of a Clinical Practice Unit. In addition to his new role as Director of the Postdoctoral Periodontal Prosthesis Program, he is currently a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics and teaches in the Periodontal Prosthesis post-doctoral program. Dr. Fraiman also serves as a member of the Penn Dental Medicine Dean’s Council, an external advisory group to the Dean. He is an accomplished speaker, lecturing on the topics of Periodontal Prosthesis, Implant Prosthodontics, Advanced Restorative Dentistry, Cosmetic Dentistry and Digital Dentistry.
