Buffett, Trump And Wall Street All Agree: Wal-Mart Is Dead Money

One of the highest growth, revolutionary business models of decades past, Wal-Mart Stores (NYSE:WMT) is becoming something of a pariah of late. Years of stock trading underperformance, low or no growth from a monster top line sales position, and difficulties transitioning its focus from traditional brick and mortar stores to the new-age online retail space have hurt investor perceptions of Wal-Mart's operating business.

Growing exponentially from 1970 to 2000, Wal-Mart became far and away the most important retail name in America at the turn of the century. An investor watched the stock quote rise from 2 cents a share in mid-1974 split-adjusted to $70 in December 1999. However, today's $68 price is not any different than 17 years ago. What happened?
